MY BROTHER THE ISLAMIST: THE ABSOLUTE CORRUPTION OF THE MIND أخي الإسلامي: كيف يدمر الإسلاميون العقول
Islamism corrupts, and corrupts the mind absolutely. This is what one finds time and again when he comes across the Islamists. Take a decent human being, who could be a moderate Muslim or a non-Muslim, and brainwash him by installing a hate ideology in his mind, and he will be a monster of a man. Islamism is such ideology that teaches its adherents that all who are not part of it, even moderate Muslims, are to be hated, subdued and conquered. Violence is part and parcel of such hate ideology. Its extreme adherents want to establish a caliphate that would rule the world; and their role models are terrorists such as Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri and the Taliban. It is anti-world, anti-human, anti-liberty ideology that must be challenged. Egypt has known this for a long time, and has suffered from it, together with the rest of the neighbouring countries; now it is spreading to the West. The West fortunately knows its danger, but it is bound by its political beliefs to allow it freedom of expression. Through documentaries like this, the Westerner will be more aware of its dangers.
It is hard to imagine how a Westerner can ever convert to this anti-Western type of ideology, and it is difficult to believe how a man or woman, seemingly normal in the mind before, could succumb to such dangerous political thought. One can think only of the effect of viruses that attack the brain of a healthy man, and, by causing him to have encephalitis, destroy his brain cells. Islamism is similarly a virus, though ideological, that destroys all common sense, all logic centres in the brain, and shuts down all faculties to think independently; to love and to embrace others. Islamism seems to be the curse of the world, as Nazism was before, that all civilised communities have to fight, and prevail upon.
Film-maker Robb Leech sets out to discover why his step-brother, Rich, a white middle-class man from the Dorset seaside town of Weymouth, became a radical Islamist (changing his name to Salahuddin). The documentary, filmed over the course of 12 months, explores how someone can so strongly reject all that his family and the Western world believe in, and examines a life under Sharia Law.
