THE RED MONASTERY PROJECT

January 17, 2016

In the above video, art historian Elizabeth Bolman talks about the Red Monastery project. Boleman was the director of the project that helped restore and study Coptic art in the Red Monastery near Sohag, Upper Egypt. The project was supported by the American Research Centre in Egypt. Boleman will publish her book “The Red Monastery Church: Beauty and Asceticism in Upper Egypt” this year.

Thanks for this, and all articles reflecting on the Coptic Culture. I visited the Red Monastery more than once and strongly recommend making the effort to do the same by any one interested in arts and Coptology

Thank you, Dr Isshak. Good to receive a comment from you. I think the new discoveries in Coptic monasteries at the Red Sea, Wadi al-Natrun and Upper Egypt (mainly Sohag area) have added a great deal to our realisation of Coptic art. I also wish all have the chance to visit these places.
