VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPH FROM 10th CENTURY OF THE COPTIC CATHEDRAL OF SAINT MARK IN AZBAKIYA, CAIRO
This vintage photograph, from between 1867 and 1899, is titled “Le Caire. Intérieur de la cathédrale cophte” and was by the photographer Maison Bonfils (Beirut, Lebanon). It is kept at the Library of Congress, Washington.
The “la cathédrale cophte” is Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Azbakeya, Cairo. It has been the seat of the Coptic Pope from 1800 to 1971, until the Patriarch’s seat was moved to the new cathedral in Abbasiya.
