UPDATE: LET SUDAN TEACH EGYPT A THING OR TWO AND SHAME HER

Mrs Rajaa Nicola Abdel Massih, Coptic member of the Sudanese Sovereign Council

In a previous article, Let Sudan Teach Egypt a Thing or Two, I wrote about the selection of a Coptic member, as one of the six civilian members, to the Sudanese Sovereign Council (SSC).  Three Coptic personalities were proposed; and it was widely thought that the pharmacist, and member of the Professionals Front, Nasri Marqos, would be the preferred candidate. But today, the membership of the SSC has been announced; and another Coptic candidate has been chosen rather than Marqos: it is a Coptic woman, Rajaa Nichola Abdel Massih, a jurist.

Thus, Sudan, which is not the original country of the Copts (Copts arrived in Sudan after 1821, when Sudan was annexed to Egypt, and number around a million only), has chosen for its leading governing institution, in the same level as that of the President, a Coptic woman. This is while the Copts, the original inhabitants of Egypt, are being discriminated against and marginalised. The news was widely supported in Sudan, though the Islamists in Sudan, and now they are largely hated by the Sudanese, attacked a gathering of Copts in Omdurman, the second largest city in Sudan. The attack has largely been condemned, and it did not stop the inclusion of the Copt in the SSC.

Sudan definitely has much to teach Egypt; and Egypt has been put to shame.
