TYRANNY MUST BE FOUGHT EVEN IF ONLY TO PREVENT THE DISFIGUREMENT OF THE CHARACTER OF THOSE WHO EXPERIENCE TYRANNY

January 4, 2020

Tyranny must be fought for many reasons, but one of the fundamental reasons for fighting it is because it disfigures the characters of those who experience the tyranny if tyranny continued for a considerable length of time.

All despotic regimes, a military or civil dictatorship, that stifle debate, limit the freedom of speech, and tolerate no dissent, end in creating a people with disfigured characters, a people whose character is controlled by fear, and results in the subservience vices of cowardice, selfishness and passivity. Such characters will be afraid even to form inside their heads independent views let alone express them.

Men and women who live under totalitarian regimes are no men or women, but wreckage of the image of God they were created in.

After all, the most damaging effect of tyrannies is not the injustice they inflict but the corruption of the human soul.

The struggle against tyranny is, thus, a religious and spiritual struggle of the first order to those who care about the character of the human being.
