A page from Champollion’s grammaire copte and one of his drawings in the manuscripts

I wrote previously asking: What has happened to Champollion’s Coptic dictionary and grammar? (31 December 2019). I explained that the two manuscripts by Jean-François Champollion were kept at the National Library at Paris, the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF). The two books have not yet been published.

Since then, I have been in contact with the BnF, and they thankfully came back to me to tell me that the two manuscripts, dictionnaire copte and grammaire copte, are indeed kept at the BnF.

They are kept at the manuscripts section under the title “Philogogie copte” :NAF 20355-20356, which the reader can access by clicking here.

The two manuscripts have been digitalized. The reader can access them on the Gallica website:

Dictionnaire copte: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b10085298x

Grammaire copte: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b10085358n

For readers who are interested in other papers of Champollion papers, they can consult Gallica’s web catalogue : http://archivesetmanuscrits.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/cc66494

The two manuscripts, dictionnaire copte and grammaire copte, are important works. They should be published. They are still awaiting an editor and publisher!
